Should You Self-insure for Long Term Care?

With the cost of long term care continuing to sky rocket retirees remain concerned about how to pay for extended care that is not covered by Medicare or other major medical insurance.  Studies have shown that as many as 70% of those over 65 will need some type of extended care before they die.  But, private long term care insurance is not cheap and many worry they could buy a policy and pay premiums for years and never end up needing the coverage.  So the idea of self insuring, or paying out of pocket, is often the intentional or unintentional plan.  More here
